Having worked in the Senate for 10 years – it’s an institution I know well.
While all the focus is on who will form Government, the Senate is often the forgotten chamber. However, the Senate is where the Government of the day either succeeds or fails to get its legislation passed.
As my former boss, the late Senator Peter Cook once said to me. “You can make all the grand policy statements you like in the House of Reps, but the Senate is where you get those policies passed into law”.
